August is here, and summer is moving into high gear with local produce and Michigan fruit in abundance at this week’s Ravinia Farmers Market. Stop by Jens Jensen Park on Wednesday, August 2 from 8am-1pm (7am early bid shopping) for a great selection of farm-fresh sweet corn, as well as other summery selections of locally grown, organic fruits and vegetables.

Market vendors continue to feature Michigan summer fruits, including smoothie-ready blueberries, juicy peaches and nectarines, apricots, early plums, sweet blackberries, summer apples (perfect for an early pie), and additional fruit selections as harvest is available.

Shopping the Market is a great way to plan your weekly menu with what’s locally in season in the Midwest, including early zucchini and summer squash, cucumbers and green beans, organic kale and chard selections, cabbage and kohlrabi, fennel, early carrots. cauliflower and broccoli,  lettuces, green onions, beets, salad turnips, snap peas, parsley, flavorful basil, dill, and other herbs, fruits and veggies. Tomato season is on the near horizon, and a small amount of cherry and heirloom tomatoes may make their first Market appearance this week as well.

Join more than 20 weekly local produce, food, artisanal product, plant and natural product vendors in the beautiful setting at Jens Jensen Park. In addition to local and organic produce, select from farm fresh eggs, cheeses, meats, local honey, pastries and baked goods, condiments, specialty herbs and teas, beverages, artisan food products, skin care essentials and soaps, tailored women’s clothing, and fresh cut flowers and beautiful plants for your home and garden. Vendors also offer freshly made breakfast and lunch items to eat at the Market or take home.

Be sure to stop by the Welcome Tent and enter the Ravinia Festival Free Drawing Experience for a chance to win two tickets to upcoming concerts, courtesy of Ravinia Festival. This week’s first prize winners will receive two pavilion passes to the August 5 performance of Powerful Thirds: Beethoven and Rachmaninoff with Marin Alsop, Yunchan Lim, and the CSO or the August 6 performance of Boz Scaggs with special guest Keb’ Mo’.  Additional prizes may include gift cards from local Highland Park business and natural products goody bags.
